Crestwood is compact: about 3.6 square miles in southwest St. Louis County, nine miles or so from downtown, housing around 12,300 people. Nearly nine in ten homes (87%) are detached houses, and the median one went up in 1960. Gas is the default fuel, heating 85% of the roughly 4,900 occupied units, with electricity covering most of the rest.
We don't post a sticker number for a Crestwood furnace replacement, because the bill depends on the house. Here is what actually moves it.
The things that change a Crestwood quote
How the old furnace vents
A 1960 ranch frequently sends furnace and water-heater exhaust up a shared masonry chimney. Moving to a condensing furnace takes the furnace off that flue, which can leave the water heater needing a liner. Some installers include it; some don't. Ask.
Basement layout
Finished basements can hide the condensate path. No floor drain nearby means a small pump and extra tubing.
Ductwork age
Sixty-plus-year-old trunks often have disconnected joints or panned joist returns. Sealing them is optional work, but it affects comfort as much as the furnace.
Efficiency tier
Single-stage, two-stage, and modulating gas furnaces differ in equipment cost and in the thermostat they need.
Cooling coil
If the AC coil sits on top of the furnace and is also old, replacing both at once avoids a mismatched system. A heat pump in place of the condenser is another route.
Who's selling
Furnace Direct, a DBA of Hamlin Mechanical LLC, ships equipment without the dealer markup; our St. Louis hub lines up licensed installation in Crestwood.
Comparing bids
Line items should spell out venting, permit, haul-away, and model numbers. Booking in September or October beats the first cold snap.
