Goodman offers one of the strongest warranties in the residential HVAC industry. But like any warranty, you have to actually register it — and understand what's covered — to benefit from it. This guide covers everything Minnesota homeowners need to know about Goodman's furnace warranty program.

Goodman Furnace Warranty Overview

Goodman's warranty structure has two tiers: registered and unregistered. The difference is significant:

Coverage Registered (within 60 days) Unregistered
Heat Exchanger Lifetime limited warranty 20 years
Parts 10 years 5 years
Labor Not included (parts only) Not included

The lifetime heat exchanger warranty is a major differentiator. Goodman is one of very few furnace brands to offer a lifetime heat exchanger warranty, and it's a genuine statement of confidence in their manufacturing. A cracked or failed heat exchanger is the most expensive furnace repair — it can cost as much as the furnace itself. Lifetime coverage means that cost is eliminated for the life of the equipment if you've registered.

How to Register Your Goodman Furnace Warranty

You must register within 60 days of installation to qualify for extended coverage. Registration is done at goodmanmfg.com/warranty-registration. You'll need:

The model number (on the data label, typically inside the front door panel). The serial number (same label). The installation date. Your contact information. Your contractor's information (if professionally installed).

Save your registration confirmation. If you ever need to make a warranty claim, this confirms your coverage dates.

What Goodman's Parts Warranty Actually Covers

The 10-year registered parts warranty covers manufacturer defects in components. This includes: heat exchangers, burners, ignitors, pressure switches, circuit boards, blower motors, gas valves, and other factory-installed parts.

It does NOT cover:

Labor costs to diagnose or replace parts. Parts damaged by improper installation. Parts damaged by lack of maintenance (dirty filters, restricted airflow). Parts damaged by floods, freezing, lightning, or physical damage. Normal wear items like filters and belts (considered consumables).

In practice: if a Goodman ignitor fails at year 7 due to a manufacturing defect, Goodman provides the replacement ignitor at no charge. Your HVAC technician's labor to install it — typically $100–$200 — is not covered. Still, parts warranties save significant money over a furnace's lifespan.

How to Make a Goodman Warranty Claim in Minnesota

Goodman warranty claims go through authorized Goodman dealers and distributors — not directly to the manufacturer. Here's the process:

Step 1: Contact a Goodman authorized dealer or distributor. Furnace Direct is a Goodman wholesale distributor and can facilitate warranty part requests. Step 2: Provide model number, serial number, and registration confirmation. Step 3: Describe the failed component. In many cases the part can be identified by the service technician diagnosing the issue. Step 4: The distributor orders the warranty replacement part from Goodman. Goodman processes the warranty and provides the replacement part at no charge. Step 5: Your HVAC technician installs the replacement part — this labor cost is yours.

Warranty claims are generally straightforward for legitimate manufacturing defects. If the failure resulted from improper installation or maintenance issues, the claim may be denied — which is why proper installation matters from day one.

Does Buying Online Affect My Goodman Warranty?

No. Goodman's warranty is tied to the equipment's serial number and registration date — not where you purchased it. Buying a Goodman furnace through Furnace Direct or any other authorized Goodman distributor does not void or reduce your warranty coverage. You get the same full 10-year parts / lifetime heat exchanger warranty as any other buyer.

The key requirement: professional installation. Goodman's warranty requires that the equipment be installed by a qualified HVAC technician following all applicable codes. DIY installation without a licensed contractor can affect warranty eligibility.

Goodman vs. Amana Warranty: What's the Difference?

Amana is Goodman's premium brand, both manufactured by Daikin. Amana furnaces carry the same lifetime heat exchanger warranty. Some Amana product lines include a unit replacement warranty — if a covered component fails within a certain period, Amana may replace the entire unit rather than just the failed part. This is Amana's key differentiator. See our Goodman vs. Amana comparison for a full breakdown.

Extended Warranty Options for Goodman Equipment

Goodman's standard warranty is parts-only. Labor is not covered. If you want labor coverage, third-party extended service contracts (home warranties, HVAC-specific service contracts) can fill that gap. Some home warranty companies cover HVAC labor after the manufacturer's parts warranty kicks in — this can make sense for older homes with aging HVAC equipment.

Shop for extended coverage carefully. Many home warranties have exclusions that gut the coverage on HVAC: pre-existing conditions, installation defects, maintenance failures, and caps on repair amounts. Read the fine print before paying for a service contract.

Maximize Your Goodman Warranty

To keep your warranty intact over 10+ years: register within 60 days of installation, change your furnace filter every 1–3 months (a dirty filter is a maintenance failure that can void warranty on related damage), get an annual furnace tune-up, keep documentation of all service records, and if a part fails, go through an authorized Goodman dealer for the claim.

Furnace Direct sells Goodman furnaces at factory-direct pricing with full warranty intact. Browse our heating catalog or reach out if you have questions about Goodman warranty coverage for your application.
