HVAC Cost Stats by Metro (2026)
Installed HVAC prices depend on three local things: what HVAC technicians earn, what energy costs, and how old the housing is. This page collects those numbers for nine metros from public federal data (BLS, EIA and the Census Bureau). Every figure links to its source. Where a figure is not published, we show n/a.

Methodology
-
Wages: BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS), May 2025 estimates, occupation 49-9021 (Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Mechanics and Installers), by metropolitan statistical area (MSA). The MSA covers the whole metro, not only the city. Brainerd, MN is not a BLS metro area, so it shows n/a.
-
Electricity: EIA Electric Power Monthly Table 5.6.A, average residential price for August 2026. This is a state-level figure, not a metro figure.
-
Natural gas: EIA average price of natural gas delivered to residential consumers, 2025 annual average. This is a state-level figure. EIA has not published a 2025 annual figure for North Carolina (NA), so it shows n/a.
-
Housing age: U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey 2020-2024 5-year estimates, table B25035 (Median Year Structure Built), for the city or place. ACS records the oldest category as "1939 or earlier".
- Kansas City uses Kansas City, MO for the place and Missouri for energy prices.
