About this product
The two parts that cause almost every "furnace runs but never lights" call, in one box. If your inducer starts and the blower runs but you never get flame, the igniter and the flame sensor are the first two things a technician checks — and they are usually replaced together, because a furnace that has been short-cycling on a failing sensor has already been hard on the igniter.
What is in the kit
- Universal silicon nitride hot surface igniter kit (M68040) — 120V, replaces over 75 igniter variations. Includes mounting brackets, porcelain wire connectors, high-temp sleeving and mounting screws.
- Universal flame sensor (790-843A1) — use as-is, bend it or cut it to replace over 120 different flame sensors across furnaces, boilers and water heaters.
Why universal matters here
You do not need to match a model number. Both parts in this kit are designed to cover the overwhelming majority of residential gas furnaces, which is exactly why we are willing to sell them as a kit — unlike capacitors or filters, there is no rating or size to get wrong.
Before you start
Shut the power off at the breaker. Handle the igniter by its ceramic base only — the element cracks from finger oil and from being knocked against the burner assembly. Clean the flame sensor rod with fine abrasive cloth if you are reusing it; a sooted sensor produces the same symptom as a dead one.

What this part does
The igniter lights the burners; the flame sensor proves the flame is actually there. If either one fails the furnace runs its inducer and blower and never delivers heat, so they are diagnosed and usually replaced together.

Do I need both parts, or just one?
Buy both. An ignition fault is diagnosed across the igniter and the sensor together, and a furnace that has been short-cycling on a weak sensor has already been hard on the igniter. Replacing one and having no heat two weeks later is the expensive outcome.
Will this fit my furnace?

Can I do this myself?
