GENERAC MAINTENANCE & SERVICE
Keeping your generator ready. Annual maintenance, battery service, oil changes, and emergency repairs. Furnace Direct maintenance plans from $39.99/month.
Why Maintenance Matters
Your home standby generator sits idle most of the year. It's designed to spring into action during an outage, but like any engine, it needs regular maintenance to be ready when you need it. Without proper service, generators can fail to start during blackouts, batteries can die, oil can sludge up, and filters can clog — all preventable with routine care.
The stakes are high: When a hurricane knocks out power and your generator won't start, you're stuck. Your family loses air conditioning, your refrigerator stops working, and your home becomes uncomfortable or even unsafe. Annual maintenance ensures your generator starts reliably, runs smoothly, and delivers full power when it matters most.
Weekly Automatic Exercise
Your Generac generator runs itself automatically every week using the Quiet-Test mode. This brief weekly exercise cycle keeps the engine healthy, cycles fresh fuel through the system, and ensures everything is working. You don't have to do anything — it happens automatically at the scheduled time (usually early morning to avoid neighborhood noise).

- Generator exercise under load test

- Battery replacement if needed
- Firmware update if available
Component-Specific Maintenance
Battery Service
Replacement Schedule: Every 2–3 years in Florida (heat accelerates battery degradation)
- Check battery voltage at every service visit
- Clean and inspect battery terminals
- Look for corrosion, swelling, or leakage
- Florida heat is hard on batteries — they fail faster here than in northern climates
- Proactive replacement prevents cold-start failures during emergencies
Oil Changes
Schedule: At minimum once per year, or every 200 hours of operation (whichever comes first)
- Use manufacturer-recommended oil type (see your generator manual for specifications)
- After an extended run during a hurricane, change oil immediately to clear any contaminants
- Regular oil changes keep your engine clean and extend component life
- Dark or dirty oil indicates your generator needs service
Spark Plugs
Schedule: Replace annually during full service
- Worn spark plugs reduce start reliability and efficiency
- Annual replacement ensures dependable cold starts
- Included in our full service package
Air Filter
Schedule: Check every 6 months, replace annually
- A clogged air filter reduces engine performance and fuel efficiency
- In dusty environments or near construction, check more frequently
- Visual inspection tells you if replacement is needed earlier
Florida-Specific Maintenance Schedule
Southwest Florida's climate demands more frequent maintenance than most regions. Heat, humidity, salt air, and intense sun age generators faster. Here's a year-round maintenance calendar:
January – February (Post-Season)
Full Service Visit: After hurricane season, schedule a complete inspection and service. Check for any damage from extended use or weather exposure. Replace oil and filters.
May – June (Pre-Season)
Full Service Visit: Before hurricane season starts, ensure your generator is fully ready. Fresh oil, new air filter, spark plugs, battery check, and load test.
October – November (Midseason Check)
Quick Inspection: Confirm readiness during peak hurricane months. Battery voltage, fuel level, basic operational checks.
After Any Outage
Post-Emergency Service: If your generator runs for an extended period (hurricane, prolonged outage), schedule immediate service. Change oil, check coolant, inspect for any strain-related issues.
