Florida AC Cost Guides by City

Florida had 22,416,076 residents and 8,752,810 occupied homes in the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey 2020–2024 5-year estimates. Half of those homes were built before 1988, 55% are single-family detached houses, and the heating fuel split is 5% utility gas, 90% electricity and 1% bottled gas or propane. Florida is an electric-heat state: nine in ten homes heat with electricity, so the real decisions are about air conditioner and heat pump size, efficiency and salt-air durability rather than furnaces.

This hub lists every Florida city guide we have published. Most cover Southwest Florida, with a few in the Tampa Bay area. The guides cover AC installation cost, heat pump choices, and what to check before replacing a system. Each pulls the city's own Census housing figures, which matters here because coastal condo towns and newer inland subdivisions have very different housing stock and very different install jobs.

For metro-level labor rates, electricity prices and cooling degree days, see the Cape Coral, Naples and Tampa stats pages. If you want a quote rather than a guide, the Southwest Florida AC installation page covers our service area.

How to read the numbers

The figures on this page and in every linked guide come from Census survey tables. Median year built (table B25035) is the year by which half of the homes standing today had been built. In Florida that year is 1988, so a typical home is old enough that its original furnace, air conditioner or ductwork may already have been replaced. House heating fuel (table B25040) counts occupied homes by their main heating fuel. It shows whether a city is mostly gas, electric or propane, and that decides which equipment types fit without fuel or venting changes. Every estimate has a margin of error, which is wider for small towns, so treat small-city figures as a guide rather than an exact count. Below we list 22 city cost guides, 42 city buying guides and 7 local pages for Florida, sorted alphabetically.
